Places available on the Construction Management Programme, Rotational Graduate Scheme and Undergraduate Programme
Redrow, the FTSE 250 and Top 10 UK housebuilder, has announced the opening of their 2017 Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes with placements now available across England and Wales for aspiring future construction industry leaders.
The programmes are highly regarded within the industry, bringing a fresh influx of the brightest university students and leavers each year. Their schemes have proved to be the perfect springboard for a long-term career with the company – one in three Redrow employees promoted at the start of the company’s new financial year were elevated from trainee positions.
Rio Daniel is one such trainee who made the leap from her year as a Planning Undergraduate and is now based within Redrow’s Colindale Gardens division in North London. She joined the year-long undergraduate programme in 2011 and following successfully completing her final year at Cardiff University was offered a permanent role with the housebuilder. She has since risen through the ranks from Land Assistant to Land Manager.
Rio comments: “I was absolutely delighted to be chosen as a Redrow Planning Undergraduate for my industrial placement, receiving the chance to learn more about the housebuilding industry from those proven to know it best. I received a huge amount of responsibility from day one, becoming part of the Land and Planning team where my contributions were actively encouraged and expected. It was a brilliant experience that I always recommend to others as it offered a genuine insight into what a career at a top ten housebuilder is like.”
There are three programmes which graduates and undergraduates are able to choose from:
The 2-year Construction Management Programme provides an intensive introduction to Redrow’s building process, working to turn the vision of their designers into a reality. The scheme is designed to give talented graduates the skill and understanding to manage the construction of Redrow’s award-winning homes. Graduates are based on-site, gaining direct experience of the entire build process from start to finish. Responsibilities will also include overseeing all aspects of the build process including the management of all on-site trades and Health & Safety provisions. Trainees will work in partnership with site teams, mentored by a construction director, and will receive the opportunity to undertake formal training as well as working towards Chartered Institute of Building membership.
The 2-year Rotational Graduate Scheme allows graduates to gain experience across 6 key sectors of the business (commercial, technical, land, sales, construction and customer service) allowing candidates to acquire real insight across the entire business before they choose a sector to specialise in. The benefit of this programme is that graduates are able to experience the full range of disciplines, gaining hands-on experience across a variety of roles and careers available in the sector, from securing land for future developments, to designing homes that people will live in and understanding how costs need to be controlled on projects around the country.
The 12-month Undergraduate Programme meanwhile offers undergraduates who are currently enrolled on a degree course the chance to develop their skills in the world of housebuilding during their placement year ensuring that participants gain practical real-world experience, whilst being paid a salary at the same time.
