Redrow shortlisted for apprenticeship award

LEADING housebuilder Redrow has been shortlisted for a regional award for its commitment to nurturing talent through apprenticeships.

Redrow – which has its Learning and Development headquarters in Tamworth – has been named as a West Midlands finalist in the Apprentice Employer of the Year category, as part of the annual National Apprenticeship Awards 2016.

The National Apprenticeship Awards recognise the achievements of extraordinary apprentices and the businesses that employ them. Redrow won the West Midlands regional award for Apprentice Employer of the Year in 2015 and is hoping for the same success at this years’ regional event, which will be held on October 5 at Sketchley Grange Hotel in North Warwickshire.

Regional winners will then go forward to the National Apprenticeship Awards event to find the overall Apprentice Employer of the Year in January 2017.

Clare Horton, new entrant programmes manager at Redrow, said: “We’re very proud of our track record in developing talent across all parts of the business and are delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award.

“Redrow employs over 250 apprentices and this vocational route into the industry acts as a spring board for a successful career in the house building and construction sector, as well as helping to ensure a skilled workforce for the future.

“Over the past 12 months our apprenticeship offering has expanded as we’ve pledged to take on 100 new apprentices this year alone. We’ve made innovative changes to how we deliver some elements of training, such as through the use of Google Classroom and we’ve added to our range of trade apprenticeships. In addition, we’ve introduced a trainee site assistant programme and there are new professional apprenticeships in commercial and technical roles on offer.”

Redrow has one of the industry’s best records for training and developing its staff. Fifteen percent of its 2,000 strong workforce have official trainee status and the company also nurtures young talent through under-graduate work placements, post-graduate training and other vocational training.

Redrow is a member of the 5% Club and is recognised in the prestigious Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer list. You can find out more about Redrow’s apprentice schemes at: www.redrowcareers.co.uk/apprentices.
