It's in the detail

Every new home we build costs money. It’s the job of our commercial team to make sure we’re spending it wisely.

In the initial planning phases of a project, they’ll provide an estimate of how much everything will cost. Once things progress, they’ll then purchase all the materials and subcontractor services we need to successfully deliver the project which often involves a tendering process. And once work is actually underway, they’ll then monitor our costs to ensure the development is being built to budget.

It’s a challenge that requires a diverse range of talents. Our team includes Estimators, Buyers and Quantity Surveyors. Despite coming from a variety of disciplines, they all share the same objective: to deliver the best homes possible, at the best possible cost. If you can help us achieve that, the rewards are there for the taking. All of our teams work seamlessly together to create our award-winning developments — and you’ll have a real hand in that process. We also have the most advanced systems in the industry and strong relationships with our suppliers.

Combined with our training, this is an exceptional environment to build your career. Redrow is a highly innovative company with ambitious plans; there’s plenty of scope here for you to grow with us.

  • One of the tasks I most enjoy are the site visits and in particular, viewing our completed projects.
Ed Geary – Assistant Quantity Surveyor

    Our People

Ed Geary“After my A-Levels I was looking for an apprenticeship in surveying and came across Redrow’s Commercial Apprenticeship Programme. When I read more about Redrow and the scheme itself it was an obvious decision to apply because of their reputation and the awards to go with it.

At the moment I am currently managing my own projects, including some works that are being undertaken at one of our existing developments. So at the moment a typical day for me involves liaising with the technical team, construction, and our contractors to ensure that the works run smoothly. Other tasks I am involved in on a regular basis include checking valuations for works on site, keeping an eye on costs, attending site visits, and meeting with our contractors.

One of the tasks I most enjoy are the site visits and in particular, viewing our completed projects. When I think about all the work that goes into it and the role I have played in these schemes, it gives me a great sense of achievement. I feel as if I am constantly learning and developing my skills as my colleagues are very supportive and are always willing to help.”

  • I enjoy the fast paced-nature of the work and working with more and more of our fantastic products
    Lauren – Group Buyer

    Our People

    Lauren Davies 2

Lauren studied Business Management at Glyndwr University. After graduating in 2013, she moved into a position within our Commercial team, with her most recent role being Group buyer.

“I knew what Redrow was like because I had already done a summer placement here. This was in the holidays before my final year of university. It was my first real exposure of life in Commercial and I really enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed the fast-paced nature of the work, a real buzz to the office. I also knew that this area would build on the knowledge I had acquired in my degree. So when the opportunity arose to join Commercial full-time, I grasped it with both hands.

I’m so glad I did. There’s lots of variety to the work. I currently specialise in kitchen furniture, wardrobes and sanitary ware – I work closely with Redrow Interior Design team to ensure we are offering the right products to our customers, as well as visiting our suppliers show areas to review new products and in some cases work to develop products specifically for Redrow. Cost management is a key aspect of my role in Group Commercial, working with our suppliers to manage our build costs.

Since joining I completed the Redrow ‘Aspire Management Course’ and hope to enrol on the next level of this course ‘Enhance’ to help develop my management skill to enable me to progress to management level.”

  • There are plenty of opportunities at Redrow, great people and a large support network.
    Ed Thomson – Quantity Surveyor

    Our People

Ed ThomsonEd started on our Commercial Apprentice Programme in September 2014 before progressing to the roles of Assistant Quantity Surveyor and now. Quantity Surveyor

“I always wanted to work in the construction industry – so when I heard about the Apprentice Scheme, I decided to apply. Since then I have been promoted to the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

On a typical day I could be involved in a number of things, whether this is take offs, quantifying works, tendering new sites or meeting with sub-contractors. My role comes with a lot of variety and I particularly enjoy the fast paced environment and diverse range of jobs I could be involved in during the week.

Whilst I have been at Redrow I have completed my BTEC Level 3 in Construction in the Built Environment, as well as my Edexcel Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Surveying, Property and Maintenance. I will also be starting my HNC degree in September in Quantity Surveying with Redrow’s support.

There are plenty of opportunities at Redrow, great people and a large support network. I would definitely recommend working for Redrow, they honestly care about their employees wellbeing and enjoy giving us opportunities to thrive.”

  • Redrow is a high quality, diverse business, that build homes with a specification most other developers aspire to.
    Paul – Commercial Director

    Our People

IMG_8464After many years with another national house builder, Paul started his career with Redrow in 2011. As Commercial Director for the South Midlands Division, he says he particularly enjoys interacting with all of our other departments.

“I really enjoy being involved with all the developments across the division, and being part of a strong, collaborative team. I have to work closely with the other departments to make sure that our Surveyors are working with the most up-to-date information, and that contractor resources are matched with our programme requirements. Collating and coordinating information and resources is the most challenging part of my role – and probably the most important. It’s vital when it comes to making sure developments are started as quickly and effectively as possible.

“Redrow is a high quality, diverse business, that build homes with a specification most other developers aspire to. They also show a keen interest in the development of their employees and they have a proven track record of making internal promotions.”
