Commercial

It's in the detail

Every new home we build costs money. It’s the job of our commercial team to make sure we’re spending it wisely.

In the initial planning phases of a project, they’ll provide an estimate of how much everything will cost. Once things progress, they’ll then purchase all the materials and subcontractor services we need to successfully deliver the project which often involves a tendering process. And once work is actually underway, they’ll then monitor our costs to ensure the development is being built to budget.

It’s a challenge that requires a diverse range of talents. Our team includes Estimators, Buyers and Quantity Surveyors. Despite coming from a variety of disciplines, they all share the same objective: to deliver the best homes possible, at the best possible cost. If you can help us achieve that, the rewards are there for the taking. All of our teams work seamlessly together to create our award-winning developments — and you’ll have a real hand in that process. We also have the most advanced systems in the industry and strong relationships with our suppliers.

Combined with our training, this is an exceptional environment to build your career. Redrow is a highly innovative company with ambitious plans; there’s plenty of scope here for you to grow with us.

    Nicola – Commercial Assistant

    Our People

Nicola joined Redrow as a Rotational Graduate in September 2013. After completing the Graduate Scheme, she then became a Technical Assistant and has recently moved into our Commercial Department based in Colindale.

“After university, I knew I wanted to join a graduate scheme with a housebuilder. I was attracted to the Redrow scheme not only because they offered a rotational experience, but also because of the level of architectural detail in their homes.

After the Graduate Scheme, I became a Technical Assistant before moving to the Commercial Department as a Commercial Assistant at the end of last year. This role has given me a lot of responsibility and is an important area of our business. As a Commercial Assistant, tasks I regularly undertake include reviewing invoices, preparing tender enquires, confirming payments, and meeting with subcontractors to review costs and work programmes. I particularly enjoy seeing the finished product on our developments and learning from our Commercial Team as well as our consultants.

As someone that has progressed through Redrow’s Rotational Graduate Scheme, I would say that the best thing about working for Redrow is definitely the range of development opportunities. Ed Geary – Commercial Apprentice

    Our People

Ed Geary“After my A-Levels I was looking for an apprenticeship in surveying and came across Redrow’s Commercial Apprenticeship Programme. When I read more about Redrow and the scheme itself it was an obvious decision to apply because of their reputation and the awards to go with it.

At the moment I am currently managing my own projects, including some works that are being undertaken at one of our existing developments. So at the moment a typical day for me involves liaising with the technical team, construction, and our contractors to ensure that the works run smoothly. Other tasks I am involved in on a regular basis include checking valuations for works on site, keeping an eye on costs, attending site visits, and meeting with our contractors.

One of the tasks I most enjoy are the site visits and in particular, viewing our completed projects. When I think about all the work that goes into it and the role I have played in these schemes, it gives me a great sense of achievement. I feel as if I am constantly learning and developing my skills as my colleagues are very supportive and are always willing to help.”

“I knew what Redrow was like because I had already done a summer placement here. This was in the holidays before my final year of university. It was my first real exposure of life in Commercial and I really enjoyed the experience. Although I was only doing administrative work, I enjoyed the fast-paced nature of the work. There was a real buzz to the office. I also knew that this area would build on the knowledge I had acquired in my degree.

“So when the opportunity arose to join Commercial full-time, I grasped it with both hands.

I’m so glad I did. There’s lots of variety to the work. At the moment, a typical day will see me liaising with suppliers and Redrow teams to ensure the products we receive under a national agreement conform to the standards we expect. I’m also involved in business tenders for new products and maintaining My Redrow – our online portal. I have a lot of responsibilities, but the training is great. I’m about to take a course in negotiation skills, which will really help me in my role.”

My role comes with a lot of variety and I particularly enjoy the fast paced environment and diverse range of jobs I could be involved in during the week.

    Our People

IMG_8464After many years with another national house builder, Paul started his career with Redrow in 2011. As Commercial Director for the South Midlands Division, he says he particularly enjoys interacting with all of our other departments.

“I really enjoy being involved with all the developments across the division, and being part of a strong, collaborative team. I have to work closely with the other departments to make sure that our Surveyors are working with the most up-to-date information, and that contractor resources are matched with our programme requirements. Collating and coordinating information and resources is the most challenging part of my role – and probably the most important. It’s vital when it comes to making sure developments are started as quickly and effectively as possible.
