We’ve invested a lot into our undergraduate programme to make sure it equips you for the demands of the real world.
Our apprenticeships give you the chance to earn while you learn – and gain a valuable qualification along the way.
Aimed at school leavers, these programmes will give you practical training and hands-on experience to build a great career.
Work experience enables young people to get their first taste of work, whether they know what career path they want to pursue or if they just want to get a sense of what it’s like in the working world.
At Redrow we relish the opportunity to give people an insight into the housebuilding sector through work experience by giving them a taster of the different roles required to keep a FTSE 250 business running. In the last 12 months, 27 different students have completed work experience with Redrow across all our divisions, some of which have been taken on as apprentices or in other permanent roles following the end of their placement.
One student who’s recently completed work experience with Redrow is Isobel. As part of her second year of a business degree at the University of Chester she completed a five-week placement with Redrow, spending time in each of the Accounts, Legal, HR, Sustainability and Commercial departments at our North Wales head office.
With a little bit of internet research, Isobel was impressed with the postgraduate opportunities available. She felt that the placement would allow her to experience the breadth of different business support roles at a large organisation.
Prior to working at Redrow, Isobel confesses that she had never considered a career within the construction sector and didn’t know much about housebuilding. Now, following her five-week placement and having worked across a whole swathe of departments she has changed her mind.
“I really liked being able to get a broad overview of the different departments you can work in at a company like Redrow”, Isobel said. “I had studied HR as part of my course at university and so I found it fascinating to see the theory applied practically in a large business.” I also spent time with the legal team, which was a completely new experience for me and I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It’s definitely something I wouldn’t have thought about or even had the chance to experience without the work experience programme.
“If someone was thinking about doing work experience with Redrow I would recommend it 100%. I found it all a bit daunting at first, but everyone is so lovely and I had a fantastic time working with my colleagues. I loved being able to get stuck into different departments and go out on site to learn how homes are built. I am definitely considering a career in housebuilding and intend on applying for the HR graduate scheme at Redrow when I finish my university course.”
As well as shorter work experience placements, Redrow offers a 12 month industry placement for university students. In the next academic year we will sponsor three students in their final year of university studies before they are offered permanent roles with us once they graduate.
